6my dad made these!!! πŸ˜€ he has always been really into gardening and he had a whole bunch of gourds he saved and dried from this past year and he has been painting them! there are so many fun ones.. ghosts, aliens, star trek characters, a gnome and this past week he made one of jeremy and i (my parents *love* mr. larson)! πŸ˜€ i love my dad SO much. I need to remember to take my camera over there Sunday afternoon and get some shots of his whole collection so you can see them. it’s so fun to see him trying new things. since he retired a few years ago he has had a lot of hobbies. he made his first painting a few months ago. i love it! πŸ™‚ thanks dad, for inspiring me to always keep trying new things!7

a thrifted purse.
89some new small paintings on wood. i love painting on wood lately.
10and i have a new roommate around here… this darling girl. we have fun….. and speaking of fun, my love love love love love love love love is moving here next week! only .6 miles from my house… so i am pretty sure this is going to be the best summer ever. having these faces nearby is really like a dream come true for me…

brett and rachel have been among my closest friends for the past seven years and we have never lived in the same state before, much less within walking distance! rach and i started Red Velvet, our art group, about five years ago… being able to work together on a weekly basis and be an almost daily part of each other’s lives really has been our dream and i am so thankful that it is finally coming true!
Il_fullxfulli just had to purchase this because it reminded me of someone i know πŸ˜‰
i love ashley’s art so much. she has such a beautiful style…

  • I love your dad’s gourdes, as a Trekkie I would loooove to see the Star Trek characters!

  • Hey Els,

I just love they way you’ve displayed those mugs in a cake stand. As I have no personal style of my own, I’ll be pinching that one from you (for my new kitchen!). AND go your Dad!! When’s he opening up his own Etsy shop for those gourds?? And finally, having enourmous trouble finding your recipe cards here in Aus – I live in Sydney for gad’s sake! It’s not like I’m out in the Woop Woops! Might have to order it from Amazon me thinks…

  • Thrift shopping is a good thing to love, WAY better for the environment than ancy shoppes. Also…how amazing are those tree-houses??! They look incredibly cool, I wanna go so bad!

  • Wow that Salvation Mountain looks cool. My parents are actually flying out to Nevada today then driving to see my brother in Southern CA so I sent them the link — maybe they can stop by. Thanks for the heads up! Love the blog!

  • Hi Elsie, I never leave messages because I know you are very overwhelmed but I love today’s post. Full of wonderful visuals. I love that tree house in Oregon. If I hadn’t planned my vacation this year I would have done that. My son would love it… Thanks for giving us inspiration… Have a wonderful rest of the week…

  • I’m totally intrigued. How did you and Rachel meet? Any tip to make maintaining a long distance friendship easier?

Do you have a favorite pipe tobacco that Jeremy smokes? I love my husbands pipe and I’m always on the look out for new tobaccos.

  • hi there … diggn’ the cherries!

I’ve got some .25 cent cups….they’re the tourist-ey type. You know the ones from different towns and countrys. My obsession you may say is collecting them and they’re not easy to find…which is the challenge!

I’m always looking for the next little town on a cup,I like to think I’m a global treker … even if it’s when I’m sitting on the front porch …. I *heart* Paris.

  • I am really excited to hear that Rachel and her family are moving so close to you. And Venessa is staying with you too? That is awesome.

You know I remember my mother telling me one day that Missouri is the show me state. In the past couple of years I have met so many wonderful talented people from Missouri. You are surrounded by sooooooo much talent Elsie and I think that is awesome. I am so glad that I stumbled accrossed your little video about 2 years ago when you were at a CHA event and it was an interview. I think I seen it on Scrapbooks Etc. I never even heard of Elsie before so I clicked on your name. I am glad I did.

    Thanks Elsie!!!!

    Have a Great Day!! Angela

  • oh elsie! i agree with u abt cherries being the best snack around! they’re so deliciously red and juicy. and i love how you managed to find those cups at the thrift store!

  • Thank you for posting all of the great pictures! Those Treehouses are so awesome what a great idea for a trip!! Your dad’s gourds are awesome! You have such a talented family! Hope you have a great weekend!

  • Oh Elsie, Your blogs are always so much fun. That must be why yours is one of my 5 favrorite art blogs.

Your dad is very talented with paint. I do hope your will take a photo of his little village of gourd people and creatures to share with us. Now I wonder who that little bearded fellow reminded you of! πŸ™‚ How cute. I have never seen those tree houses before. Wow that would be an awesome trip. Oh, your RedVelvetArt group could do an art retreat there. That would be sooooo much fun. I am jealous, oh to be young again! The Salvation Mountain is really cool too. I’m gonna check that out more. Thanks for sharing lovely lady.

    Blessed Be, Teresa aka Tess

  • love this collection of photos… the cherries make my mouth water. I indulged in a whole bag of them while on vacation a couple days ago and I wish I still had them!

  • I love that little clay tigerlily…what kind of clay did you use? did you have to fire it???

you have such inspiring stuff πŸ™‚

  • The gourds are priceless. I’m sure that makes your boyfriend feel welcomed. Nice gesture from a father to his daughter’s boyfriend.

I saw this treehouse in one of my Domino mags. http://www.dominomag.com/galleries/2008/03/treehouse

Salvation Mountain was featured in a ‘random sights’ fun little show on PBS that I occassionally watch. The creator is very absorbed in it. All I could think of were the paint fumes. But it would be a great photo op.

  • ha ha.. that is a long post.. but, back to the gourds (sp?) back way up.. πŸ˜€ I love them! THat is so cute that your dad made those for you! it is sooo you!

and I am getting my first Red Velv kit this month! Yay! I had, i mean HAD, to get the puppy kit. The love of my life (of 9 yrs!) walks on all fours, but thinks she is a person. So, watch out! I am going to town on the new dog kit.

    Have a great weekend!
