i'm doing a TON of illustrations tonight and i need something pretty to keep my mind inspired.
a movie… maybe? a song or an album? or an artist.
i don't need ideas, i just need something to help me focus & stay positive…. i get lonely sometimes because i like to work alone but it can last f o r e v e r.
i'm pretty desperate & i've heard about so many beautiful things from blog readers in the past…

also, foreign films. even if you don’t understand the language, it is so pretty to hear, and foreign films are often less predictable, softer, fresher than american films. bollywood films are super fun if you want vivacity & colour. i really like the subtlety of “le fils de l’epicier” and “the band’s visit.” if you have netflix–you can see alot of foreign films on instant watch.

One of my favorite movies is: “Love Me if You Dare” with Marion Cottilard. I love artsy, French movies. Also, a movie I think is beautiful is Penelope. I love the colors, the combinations, the cinematography. (this one is in English). If you like “Pushing Daisies”, you should really check out “Dead Like Me”, it is the same guy that did both shows, but “Dead Like Me” is a much stronger story ( not as visual though).

Ifyou haven’t seen “Mr. Magorium’s Magic emporium”, I think it’s very inspiring. The actors aren’t too good, but it’s so full of color and ideas, that I found it really inspiring.

Okay Elsie, I’m older so I have a bit of a different perspective. Creatively, I love anything directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The cinematography in his movies is always stellar. I love Ingrid Bergman, and one especially that I like is Indiscreet, because of the artwork that fills one whole wall of her apartment. It’s so interesting to me. Of course Casablanca is my ultimate inspiration, the exotic location, the unrequited love during such a difficult time in history.
I have to mention anything with Joan Crawford or Bette Davis. Once you watch one of their movies a second or third time, you see the intricacies, the double entendres – things we miss these days because everything made today seems to be so blantant. I love the drama of The Letter with Bette Davis, set in a tropical local with great acting. I think to truly be inspired it behooves us to revisit those movies, songs and art that have stood the test of time and proven themselves to be classics.
We have so much to learn. We think that we have discovered something new and different and then I watch an old movie and I see that they GOT it, only maybe in a more sophisticated, less in-your-face way.
Seriously anything by Alfred Hitchcock, anything with Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Lana Turner and Ingrid Bergman and you will be definitely inspired!

Some young guys who organised a little motocross 12 years ago for the first time, and I love how they are nuts and made it to something really big for all ages. Our 5 year old loved it, we, and our 15 and 18 year old. An old lady: mother of the manager, was carried around as the queen of the festival.
132000 people over three days, 65000 today, imagine a very small village, and it was all (ok almost all I think) peacefull. Isn’t that great in this world?
