it’s a little game i like to call…. 20 questions! :D

1i haven't answered questions in such a long time, so i am going to open it up again. this time i am only answering questions that are a. fun and b. things i can talk openly and honestly about. i will add in lots of photos and inspiration too, for those of you who like stories with pictures ;). So, ask away… i tend to keep my blog very visual (and not very personal), so this will be a good opportunity to get to know me a little bit better! It will also be fun for me to see what kinds of things my blog readers are interested in hearing about. :D

  • Hi Elsie,

Do you have any advise for a 14 year old girl who has a passion for drawing and goes everywhere with her sketchbook? She hopes to make art her career some day.

I just got my beautiful artistic daughter your “Come What May” pic, we both love it. We think you are awesome!!!

    Lisa;P

  • When you get 15 minutes to yourself, what is the first thing you want to do (not deadline realted-15 minutes of Elsie only time)?

  • I remember a Flickr photo you posted once of your running shoes and you mentioned you reached a goal in your world of running. What was that goal? Love your blog, you are too much fun. Thnx, E.

  • Hi Elsie!

am I really the first comment?! So I’ve read your blog for a long time now, I have your book, etc. I feel like I know a lot of little random facts about you, but I have always wondered about when/how you and Rachel met and the development of your really cool friendship! Details!! love ya!

  • ooh, what a great idea! If I could ask you a question, I would wonder, what is your opinion on tattoos? Do you have any? If you would get one, what would it be of, and why? I think a tattoo says a lot about someone because of it’s permanentness. :D:D

And a side question… It’s your 21st birthday, and there is a winter storm in April!! You’re stormed in with no power (for a few hours anyways)… what would you do to make the most of your day??? Lol… it’s my birthday today, and that’s what happened.

    xoxo, Holly

is there a way to get your book from your esty shop with your signature? pleeease, pretty please with a cherry dipped in chocolate on top?!?!?

    thanks!

    rebeca

  • Oh fun! I have a three part question…not sure how “fun” it is but inquiring minds want to know if…

    a) you’ve lived in Springfield all your life, and

    b) if you have considered moving somewhere else…if so where and why? and

    c) if you could live anywhere else in the world (excluding your current location) where you be and why would you want to be there (what draws you to that place)?

    Hugs! Kinsey

  • Alright here’s one! Where do you find all of your fun, funky vintage clothing?? You always look amazing!!

  • I see that you are sewing more on your pages. I would like to get into sewing but don’t have a sewing machine. Do you have a sewing machine that you absolute love and can’t live without? And have you done any other sewing projects outside of page layouts and doll making for etsy.com?

  • Oooh, fun! How sweet of you. Well, hmm…we all want to know about you and Jeremy, BUT in the spirit of being respectful, not getting TOO personal (and letting someone else ask that stuff :D) I will say something different:

  • Oh my goodness. I just recently found your blog and have become a little bit obessed with finding out about how you actually came to do what you are doing. So did it fall in your lap? Did you pursue it? How the heck at your age did you become such a big star… seriously please dont tell me it happen overnight because I would be crushed. We are the same age and I am no where to getting to do what I love to do full time so I want some hope that hard work and just keeping at it will bring me success.

  • whoo hoo! I love these!

How many hours a day do you spend on crafting? (painting, photos, photo editing, scrapping, designing of new lines?) I am always wondering how you do it all- but I guess that is your “day job” ๐Ÿ™‚

  • hi elsie!

my question for you is this:

what is your favorite product that you design for your love, elsie lines? i love your paper ๐Ÿ™‚

thanks for keeping such an inspirational blog!

  • Well I’d like to know is when is your Recipe Box gonna hit the stores? I’ve seen preorders online and they say to be release in March but no Recipe boxes yet! I can’t wait to get my hands on one. THANKS!!!

  • describe your dream kitchen…the decor, the colors, what the pantry & fridge would be stocked with…if you had unlimited funds. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • What do you think encouraged you most of all to be an artist? I am a parent who hears all the playground practicals chat – and as I listen, it seems like it would be easy to squish a budding creative. How were you (or not perhaps) encouraged? What do you think would encourage creative artistry in today’s families? Any creative traditions you would like to share? Thank you.

  • Good questions so far!

Do you know when the Love Elsie website might be up? It has said coming soon for a very long time. ๐Ÿ™‚ It would be fun to have somewhere to go look at all the stuff available and see all the inspiration.

  • I’ll give several to choose from:

anything comedic. so who that is famous do you find funny? what comedies do you like–TV/movie,stand-up,comics,anything? what’s your comedy style–slapstick, satire, farce, dry humor, etc. anything pertaining to comedy.

dream destination or vacation. where geographically and description of the ideal environment there.

what do you like to read if you read? genre and/or titles/authors.

reporter. if you could interview anyone past or present-who? what would you want to know and ask?

    that’s all. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Hi Elsie!! I have never posted on here before, but I practically stalk your blog every day (lol)and I LOVE getting inspiration from you. My question for you is: how do you make your scrapbook pages so cool, funky and different? I absolutely adore your style!

  • i’m so glad you decided to do another one of these…i have been dying to ask you about one picture i saw once. i think it used to be on your fridge. the one freeze motion of the girl jumping over the haystack. i want it, i need it. (oh baby oh baby) ๐Ÿ˜›

    thanks.

  • I’d like to know…

How did you break into the commercial scrapbooking world?

Where do you buy your clothes?

How did you meet all of the Red Velvet Girls?

  • I just recently purchased 52 Scrapbooking Challenges. There are several pages with a man whom is referred to you as your husband. Are you married or divorced because on the website you have all the pictures of your boyfriend.

  • Not sure that you’ll want to answer this, but I’ll give it a shot.

I am recently separated from my husband. Beforehand, AS MUCH AS I LOVED YOUR BLOG, I stopped reading it b/c it was too ‘gooey’ with love for TJ and it made me insanely jealous to see that kind of ‘perfect’ relationship. And then….

And now you’re being a bit more cautious about Jeremy. Understandably.

It was just refreshing, as a reader, to see that you were ‘human’ and Life seemed to touch your life as well.

My question, I guess, is multi-parted: Are you okay? (was it a bitter divorce) How did you meet Jeremy. And…is TJ okay? We all kind of got to “know” him through your blog.

Again, I understand if it’s all too personal. I ask out of personal curiousity in coping with my own situation (and that of a lot of your readers, no doubt.)

You are fabulous, Elsie. I’m excitedly anticipating one of your etsy prints right now!

    Thanks,

    g

  • I love when you open up your blog to questions! I have just a couple one is more technical less fun – rubons on fabric paper? Does it work? I think it would look awesome but I’m afraid to waste a rubon of yours when it’s so hard for me to get your stuff in Orlando.

A more fun question: What is your favorite song/music to listen to when you are in certain moods, happy, sad, melancholy?

Another maybe more personal but I see all your pictures of you and your friends look so awesome and like you are having so much fun what is your secret to maintaining such great friendships?

    Danielle

  • What was your childhood like?

    and

How did you decide what you wanted to do with your life and make that come true?

  • Hi Elsie,

What an inspiration you are! My question is: who takes all of the gorgeous pictures of you and your friends?

  • how did you get started in this biz? i would absolutely love to make a career in the crafting world, but it seems so overwhelming, and i wouldn’t know where to start! i made an etsy shop and it will open in may, but i’m really into papercrafting and would love to have my own line of designer papers one day. any tips on how to make it there?

ps…love your blog and have it bookmarked on mine! i read yours and rachel’s almost everyday…y’all are two of the most creative and inspiring girls ever!

    love, emjay

  • Dear Elsie,

I find it hard to believe in a faith or if there is anything beyond the life we have here. I believe in my family and passing things onto them, watching them grow, but I am scared to believe in something that may never come to be.

I would be so interested to hear about what you believe in and what you hope is out there for you once you leave this life.

I hope that is not too personal. I find it comforting that people are very passionate about any faith they believe in.

  • I definitely want to know how you do your hair. Can you post like 5-6 different pix with different hair styles so we can see how to do it on our own hair? I LOVE your hair styles!!!!

  • hi elsie!!

Love your blog, you are so inspiring, Just wondering if you stil have Cocoa?

  • Do you know Brazil? or … do you have plans to come to Brazil someday?

  • Pick a favorite item from your boner-ific loft, purchased or made, and tell me something about it; i.e. what not-so-obvious purpose it may serve or why you chose to display it. This way you can use lots of tasty visuals too.

  • What three-colour combination would best represent your mood today (one colour would be too 1 dimensional ;-)?

  • Since you’re always sporting such a cute hairdo and you love pics, would you ever consider SHOWING us how you make your hair happen!?! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Hey Elsie! I’ve been a fan and reader for a long time!

I know you did a doggy themed set of products for Love, Elsie. Any plans for something kitty cat themed? Cat lovers around the world would LOVE to know! (Specifically this one).

    cheers!

    Nichole

  • I just recently found you – your book, your blog. I’m already hooked. You have such a vibrance about you and a uniquely beautiful style. Every picture I see of you is adorable and perfectly coordinated. How about sharing a picture of your closet. And/or a shoe picture? Might be a fun way for you to share and still include pictures.

  • Hi Elsie, I would love to know if you would like kids in the future? If so how many, and what names do you love for children (do you have any picked out yet?)

    Pam

  • ok one more question, I am dying to know this.. what is your ALL TIME favorite piece of patterned paper and why? (other than something from your lines ๐Ÿ™‚ ) And what is your favorite piece of paper from your lines?

    Pam

  • I would LOVE to know how you get your hair up in those amazing and fantastic bouffant-esque ponytails and seemingly effortless up-do’s! I try and try but I never seem to be able to achieve the same level of awesomeness. Arg.

  • How do you begin one of your paintings? Do you sketch it out first or jump right into putting paint on canvas? Do you use acrylic paints?

    Sorry, three questions…

  • When is your Forrest and Daisy lines coming? I keep checking Two Peas, IM SO EXCITED! Was Daisy mostly designed for female pets? I cant wait to get my hands on your new book as well! My question is, when you scrapbook where do you get your ideas from- the pictures, product…?

  • inspired by the song ” If I had a million Dollars” : What would you do if you had a million dollars, or some other large amount of money?

  • Hey Elsie!

    You always just exude inspiration!

    ๐Ÿ˜€

    Here are my Qs:

1)How long does it take you to finish a layout? How much time do you spend scrapbooking?

2)Can you post another set of sketches? I loved your other ones SOOOO much! ๐Ÿ™‚

3)What’s inside your fridge? (sorry if you find this too personal…I’m just curious.)

    Thanks! :]

  • Hmmm…If you could jet-set to anywhere tomorrow, where would it be? Who would be holding your hand on the way? Which candy would you eat on the plane and whose tunes would be on your travel playlist? And…would you want to come home?

    So many questions!! lol…

  • When you posted the preview of your Neverland painting series, there was one that looked like a map of Neverland. Will the series in your Etsy store be expanded? I’ve been keeping an eye out for that particular print but haven’t seen it yet.

  • I would like to know how you decide what to wear everyday? you have such awesome unique style, I wonder where you get your inspiration from.

  • this is more of a fun challenge than a question:

go “dress up” (clothes, hair, make-up . . . the works) as if you are from the 1940’s or 50’s (you choose) and then take some pics.

(and of course, share them! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • When you have kids, what kinds of things will you do to encourage them to be artistic and creative?

  • this one may be kind of boring, but i was going through my old CK’s and loved seeing you in them. are you going to be published again. i sure miss your style! Thanks :O)

  • Hi Elsie,

I just want to say, everytime I see a fellow scrapbooker make it BIG in the industry I am so proud! We have come a long way!!!

My question for you is what is your favorite kinds of adhesive?

  • You have a complete goodness about you. You are well connected to your family and friends.

What advice can you or do you give to others that they can use to embrace life like you do?

  • You all looked so immaculate in the Red Velvet photoshoot, my question is; do you do your own hair and make-up? What products do you like to use?

  • You seem to be really comfortable in your own skin, and make no apologies for who you are as a person and artist. Where does this inner confidence come from? Who or how have you been encouraged to pursue your dreams? What is at the core of your personal inspiration?

  • Ok- I have another one- My boyfriend and I have 5 birds as pets, 3 parakeets and 2 parrotlets (miniture parrots) and we (I mean I) can NEVER find scrapbook stuff with birds. Maya Road has SOME stuff, but everyone is all over the dog and cat themes, but I was wondering if you could throw in some bird stuff into the next collection….. I think that I would go to heaven over it- Love Elsie mixed with bird stuff would be the best! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Hi Elsie! I would love to know your creative process, especially in regards to painting. Do you draw it in pencil first or do you paint the entire background a solid color? Do you draw it in at all or do you just paint it? What part do you paint first? How long have you been painting? And what kind of art did you do when you were younger?

I’ve just started painting myself. I’ve dabbled from time to time, but I’ve really been inspired to paint actual paintings. It’s so enjoyable.

    Thanks so much!

  • Hi Elsie!

Oh my goodness, I love a good Q&A session ๐Ÿ™‚

So my question is: Do you bring your scrapbook supplies when you travel? If so, what supplies do you bring?

    Thank you so much!

  • Have you and T.J. remained friends? Have you kept in touch w/ his family? I can imagine how complicated that all must be… *Hugs*

  • Hi Elsie,

Love your blog and your scrapping style!

This is soo fun… I am curious how the Red Velvet group came about.

    Thanks!

    Callista

  • If you could be any rockstar (dead or alive) for a night who would it be and why?

  • Thank you for all your inspiration over the years! I can’t wait for your new book!

I know music is a huge part of your life. If you could be in a band what would it be called and what kind of music would you play?

  • Elsie,

I absolutely LOVE your sense of style! My question is, who or what inspires you to dress and come up with the looks that you do? ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Ok So I have to know- How do you get your hair all high and tangly and cute and teased like that??? It is SOOOOOOO cute!!!!!! Can you share your secret?? and one other questions- where’s your favorite place to shop for clothes ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Hey girl,

Just wanted to know how Cocoa is doing?

I love the fact about you that you seem to be able to draw inspiration from everything around you – love that!!! So cool!

  • Hey Elsie…question about your hair in all your photos…do you fix it yourself or does Vanessa? ๐Ÿ™‚ I love it every time! So creative…just like your art. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I know you area big pirate fan so my question for you is this: Captain Hook or Captain Jack Sparrow?

  • Hi Elsie…love your blog. My question is…have you always been into art (I know your mom was an art teacher right?) or is it something that just developed over time? Also any advise for my son who is 11 and loves to draw…anything I can do to help build that up in him…books? ideas? Thanx!

  • I always love your hair. I, myself, have no hair talent (nor willingness to spend any time on it). My question is how much time do you take to make your hair look so awesome and what exactly do you do/use to get such great volume. Your friends have rockin hair too.

  • Hi Elsie. I love “blog stalking” you, it is always full of inspiration.

Question – You show pictures of your painting/scrapping with friends alot, do you work better in a group or by yourself?

  • I’m curious as to how all you Red Velvet Girls came together?? Your Red Velvet Weekend looked like a blast!!

Keep on doing what you’re doing….

  • Woohoo question time! *break it down*

There are a lot of posts you do about inspiration, most of the pictures are from flickr. How do you come about finding these different pictures? Is it random and saved for a later date or is it through search words?

    Thanks!

    xoxo Kimi

  • Hi Elsie

If you were told you had a year left to live what would you do with that year? I am about to turn 25 and as my 20’s are my designated “fun” years I am planning what to do with the next 5 years. For me its all about travelling as it is when I am seeing the world that I learn the most about life and about me.

    You rock missy

  • Hey Elsie, Ok here are my ?’s

What do you use to Jack your hair to Jesus for hair products…I would like to know what Venessa uses too. I love creative looking hair.

What is your favorite tool in photoshop? And do you use a Wacom tablet (pen tablet w/ stylus pen)?

When designing your papers are you drawing them out on paper or do you do it digitally?

    Thanks Elsie!!

  • I am amazed if you actually read every one of these! You have quite a following. My question is about all the fab pictures you post. Some of the look almost metallic. How do you make them look like that? I love how all the photos look. There’s a vibe to them that’s perfect.

  • How do you get set up all these fun self portrait photos? Thanks for the fun blog!

  • Is there anything that is art related or creative that you’ve wanted to try or learn to do but haven’t yet done so? If so, what is it?

  • I have been sitting here looking at the screen for ages trying to come up with an interesting question….so decided on a seemingly boring one…..do you have a favourite book, what is it and why is it your favourite??

    (((hugs)))

  • Hi Elsie

How do you get your lines on your paintings so damn crisp? My lines always look shaggy!

Any suggestions for getting the funky photos that you and your gals pals take? I have some super funky friends I’d love to photograph ‘elsie style’ but just can’t seem to get the funk factor.

  • Hi Elsie,

Just wanted to know if your SKIN is that FLAWLESS or is it the magic of Photoshop? Seriously, other than my daughter, you have the most beautiful porcelain skin I have ever seen!

    Have a great weekend!

  • hi elsie – I have been a fan of yours forever now!

    just a quickie:

do you use a self-timer for your self-portraits, or do you coerce someone else to take them for you?

  • Hi Elsie,

I wanted to know…are you a spontaneous, fly by the seat of your pants creator or a thoughtful, planning creator?

Love the blog and love your new product too. Can’t wait to see what you come out with next! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Hi Elsie! My prom is today, and I was wondering what your prom was like?

  • Where did you meet your beau??

And do you have any good tips for your circular chipboard albums? I just bought one and I don’t know where to start!!

    Thanks,

    Meg

  • Hi Elsie,

I am an avid follower of fashion, and so, I have noticed your very cool style. So, I am wondering, what are *Elsie’s Spring/ Summer Must-Haves*? Feel free to include pictures. ๐Ÿ™‚

    -Erin

  • Have you ever been to Austin, Texas? Every time I stroll down s. congress to look at the odd shops I think how much you would love it ๐Ÿ˜› Not to mention the killer music scene, and just an all around GREAT town.

  • Ok, I know I already asked a question (about a possible kitty line) but I have another!! Whether you post or not I’d really love to know the answer one way or another.

Do you have a business card? If not, what would yours look like if you did have one? When you first started did you create a business card for yourself? I’m thinking of creating one for myself (even though I have no business yet) and am sort of strapped for ideas.

    THANK YOU!!!

  • Soooooo…. when are we going to see a Love, Elsie clothing line? ๐Ÿ™‚

  • your pictures seem like a “movie” or magazine. Do you take random pictures where everyone is (hmm what is the word) not staged or perfect? I am sorry that is not meant to sound mean just wondering if you have everyday pictures? Thank you.

  • Tell us about your process with photography. What inspires you to take the pictures you do? How do you edit your photos? Where do you get inspiration for the cute clothes you wear?

  • Hey Elsie,

Although I really do love all that you do…I truly do look forward to seeing your pictures. I log onto flikr quite often to check out new posts…

I would love to hear more about your photography, settings you use, lens used, fstop, composition, etc.

    Enlighten us wanna-be photogs!

  • Hi Elsie, Like everyone else that has commented, I love your stuff. My style isn’t the same but I get a lot of inspiration from you. I love your paintings. My question is what advice would you give someone who has never painted but would like to give it a go? Have you always had that talent or did you “develop” it? Thanks for the opportunity to ask.

  • OoooooH! Oooooh! OOOOOOOH! Elsie!!

PICK ME!!!!! PICK ME!! (Raising hand frantically!!!)

Elsie — I have had a question for you for a LONG LONG time!

OK.. If I were out with my Hubby and I spotted you- I’d probably have a minor coronary-SCRATCH THAT-MAJOR CORONARY-I’d be so excited to see you (you are the cat’s MEOW as far as I am concerned) but my Hubby would have NO clue (He’s not as cool as I am!!) who you were or WHY I was suddenly a mental patient-LOL ๐Ÿ™‚

SO-Short question: Are you recognized often in your day to day life (for being the scrapbooking godess that you are??) AND is it cool or does it kinda weird you out?? Sorry the question wasn’t as short as I intended it to be!

    HUGS!

    Cin Cin ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Looking back at all the comments I noticed I wasn’t the only one who’s asking you about the Hair and the Make-up! You look so cool girl and seem so nice. Come and hang out with us crazy scrappers in Sweden sometime, we all looove you!

I have another question for you, in the spirit of your new book (i cannot explain just how excited I am about that book… cannot wait!). Can you give us your favourite recipe?

  • I am going to go for the first silly question I thought of:

what scent shower gel do you have in your bathtub…or what scent do like the best?

  • Hey Elsie!!

You talk about all of your really fun times. I was wondering what is the funnest and maybe craziest thing you have ever done???

Craziest for me would be riding my horse under the full moon bareback!!

    Thanks!!

    Holly

  • I was just curious… I’m a long-time fan of your blog (from back when you were using Blogger, before your cute Typepad blog!!) You used to talk openly about your faith as a Christian, and I was wondering (hope it’s not too personal) if your faith is still something that’s a huge part of your life, or if you’ve moved past it a little?

  • Hi! If it is not too late to add this one, I was wondering if you could post what was on your old blog from before, on how your post processing for the self-portrait? ๐Ÿ™‚

  • There are so many questions i want to ask but mainly…

    1) How have you got so far in your career so young?! How did it happen?

    2) Do you have any plans to come to England and teach?

  • Hi Elsie-

I just was wondering what lens you use to take all your fabulous self-portraits? Thanks!

  • 1. How did you become a designer of the scrapbooking products? How does someone get into that field?

    2. When & how did you start painting?

    3. Have you traveled out of the country, if so where?

    4. What camera do you use for your photos?

You’re awesome and love reading your blog!

  • 1. How did you get into designing scrapbooking products? How does someone get into that industry starting from the bottom?

    2. What countries have you traveled if any?

3.What camera do you use for your fabulous photos?

You’re awesome & I love reading your blog!

  • Where did you work before you got into the scrapbooking business? Do you work anywhere else NOW beside the scrapbooking or do you make your living off of scrapbooking.

How did you family get so close? I love it. Mine is not close AT ALL. I have 3 sisters and 1 brother and we were all pitted against each other as kids. Guess it all has to do with my parents. Love that you all are close. Gives me hope.

  • There are some great questions up!

Heres’ one (I don’t know if it is great or not)

What is your best advice for someone who wants to break into the world of crafting and make a living at it? It doesn’t have to be a lot of money, just something. I am dying to stay home with my two year old, craft and also feel a sense of provision, all whilst fulfilling myself. Best Advice????

I also really loved the question that asks you what you thought it was that your parents did that instilled your belief in yourself that afforded you to pursue your artistic dreams?

  • ok…i bet you’d know where to get a great fun, big bag to carry a bit of everything in? (i’m tired of boring diaper bags:)

also, i’d love to know what camera equipment/lens’ you use…thanks!:)

i’d love to hear your recommendation of where to find a cool large bag to fit all my odds and ends…

also, i’d love to hear what photo equipment/lenses you use…

    thanks!

  • Hope I’m not too late! One thing I’ve always wanted to ask… if you were to create a cd for a child (my daughter is nearing 9)… who or what songs would be on that cd?

  • Hi Elsie,

I don’t know if you are still taking questions or if this has been asked, but would you mind doing a little hair tutorial? or letting me in on what products you use?

I have naturally curly/wavy hair [I think similar to yours] that I generally flat iron, and I love what you’ve been doing with your hair lately. :]

    Thanks so much!
