Lavender Sugar Cube Scrub DIY

I love love love a good sugar scrub. I always feel like my skin is extra clean and soft when I use a sugar scrub in the shower and my new favorite thing is sugar scrub cubes. Basically, this is almost the same ingredients as a sugar scrub, but you add in a little melt-and-pour soap to the mixture to bind the ingredients together into a portioned shape so you can use them as desired. And the other bonus is that, well, they just look so cute as little cubes! Here’s how I made mine …

Supplies:
1/2 cup chopped melt and pour soap
1/4 cup coconut oil
1 cup granulated sugar
25 drops of lavender essential oil
2 tablespoons chopped dried lavender petals
silicone small ice cube trayChop your soap into small chunks so you can measure it more accurately in your measuring cup. Add your soap and coconut oil into a microwave safe bowl and heat (on 50% power) for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each interval, until all the soap and oil are melted together.

Working quickly, add in your lavender essential oil, stir to combine.Next, quickly add in your sugar and dried lavender petals (just give them a few chops with a knife to make them a little smaller) and mix together. You’ll then want to immediately spoon your mixture into your silicone mold with a spoon and press them down with the back of the spoon so they are tightly packed in there. If your mixture starts to set too quickly, you can pop it back in the microwave for 20 seconds at a time until it softens a little. Just keep an eye on it, as you don’t want it to get too hot and start to melt your sugar granules! I ended up with eight cubes from this batch that are a little bigger than 1″ squared.

Pop your tray into the fridge or freezer until they set and then gently push them out of the mold and store in an airtight container until ready to use!

I always recommend using sugar scrubs in a warm/hot shower rather than a bath, as sitting in sugar water could lead to things like yeast infections (and that’s definitely not worth it!). Since the oils in scrubs can also make the shower/tub floor slippery, I usually squirt a little body wash or soap onto the floor afterwards and kind of rub it around with my foot to remove any oil leftover. I love that these cubes are sized in individual servings and the extra punch of lavender buds smell great as well as look pretty too. Enjoy! xo. Laura
