I’m always making small changes to our home, especially since becoming a mom. I love a beautiful kiddo room, but functionality definitely became my number one priority after I bought a rattan headboard that pulled my hair during story time every night. Augh! Today, I wanted to share a couple things we added and changed in Nova’s toddler room … and this time they’ve been tested for months and months, so I know they are comfortable!
This rug hangs on Nova’s wall and is the perfect giant statement art for her bedroom. I struggled with what to put here for a while (it was empty for almost a year) and I love this rainbow rug as a wall hanging!
I don’t know if you’ve ever done this, but I wanted this bed from the beginning. Then at the last minute I went with a cheaper option (the hair pulling headboard—oops). Then I ended up circling back and getting this one in the end (I did wait for a sale though). This bed is SO GOOD. It’s so comfortable and just much more practical for a toddler. I promised Jeremy we’d keep it until Nova is in junior high or so. I plan on getting a matching one for Marigold when the time comes. Nova has already requested that they share a room—how sweet is that? My sister and shared a room for most of our childhood and I think it’s so special for sisters!
Other than that, not much has changed since Nova’s nursery was first set up. We were able to re-use the crib Nova never needed in Marigold’s nursery.
I try to keep the toys mostly out of the bedrooms because I struggle to sleep when my bedroom is really messy. Nova hasn’t really had a toy phase at all yet, so it’s mainly just about the piggies still. They’re the only toy she “loves” right now. Keeping the clothing situation under control is more of a struggle, but we do our best.
I am curious how our girls’ rooms will change and evolve as they grow. And I’m very curious if they will choose to share a room when the time comes (we would love that!). If you have any tips for tweaking your kiddos’ rooms though the years, I’d love to hear them!

My daughter is 2 1/2 and we are moving in a few weeks.
I was going to do the big girl bed then but decided she needed more room to play than a big bed.
So we are keeping our white toddler bed (that she loves anyway and begs to keep it when we move). I have told her though when she gets too tall (which is coming fast!) I am getting the Jenny Lind white bed as well. There’s just something about knowing it can’t get dings in it like wood that I LOVE.

My sisters and I each had our own bedroom, but we had sleep overs in one of the bedroom every Friday and Saturday night. Right up until we were 13/14/15yo and started going out more often.
15 years later, it is a set of memories we all love from our childhood. And we still sleep in the same bedroom when we get together without our husbands/boyfriends.

My sister and I shared a room until I was 12. When we had bunk beds, we built forts! We sometimes were annoyed with each other, obviously, but mostly is was fun and I only have fond memories of sharing a room with her. ☺️ When I finally got my own room I was excited, but we had so many “sleepovers” and movie nights with ticket stubs and everything under our new fort in my room ???? It’s honestly the best

It’s funny how you picture the way your child’s room to look and how they perceive it. That’s the one thing I have struggled with as my daughter has gotten older. She’ll be 7 this August. I think the biggest thing is adapting the storage situation and being open to how they want their room to function and look and find a good middle ground. We turned her toy cabinet (like the one Mandy made a few years ago!) into her art supplies cabinet and now she’s asking for a desk to do her homework. Makeup and jewelry and purses are becoming a situation too. I feel like we went from 6 to 16 years old overnight. It’s been humbling and horrifying. Ha! But, given your posts, I’m sure you will be great at knowing how to tweak their rooms.
I love keeping up with you and Nova. Makes me want to adopt even more one day. How did you hang the Oeuf rug? Did you sew a channel on the back for the rod?

In our family, the bedroom is for sleeping, resting, and privacy for getting dressed. I can’t sleep in a messy room either, so I try to keep my kid’s bedroom organised, yet still – that’s a pain to deal with all those stuffed animals my daughter adore. We have a playroom so all toys go in there, and only the favorites can be played in the bedroom (but they do get put back!).
Love this room. Where did you get the bedding. I’m in love with the striped blanket. Putting together my almost 3 year old’s big girl bed and we can’t find bedding we like. Thanks
