Pink Sugar Body Polish

I know I can’t be the only person out there that absolutely loves a good body polish/scrub. This one really delivers—it’s exfoliating (of course), hydrating, *and* pink! It’s a really easy recipe and only takes about five minutes to whip up. I also enjoyed picking out my perfect “scrub blend” of essential oils for the fragrance of this project, and I ended up using lavender (soothing for skin) and grapefruit (energizing and fresh!). The end result smells like strolling past a French patisserie—it’s so sweet, lovely, and soft.

This scrub is colored naturally with French pink clay, which is a mild clay that can help soothe inflammation. You can omit this if you want and it won’t affect the outcome of the scrub too much other than the color. The jojoba oil helps to hydrate and soften and the coconut oil has some great antibacterial and hydrating properties as well.

One of my favorite exfoliating tips is not to push the scrub too hard into your skin—a physical exfoliant like sugar does a lot of work even when gently massaged into the skin. If you find your skin super red after exfoliating, be more gentle! Your skin will thank you. 🙂

Recipe:
-1 1/4 cups sugar
-1/2 cup coconut oil
-2 tablespoons jojoba oil (you can substitute another hydrating oil here if you want!)
-1/2 teaspoon French pink clay
-5 drops Oui Fresh lavender essential oil
-5 drops Oui Fresh grapefruit essential oil

Start with your coconut oil and jojoba oil and mix until well combined and smooth. I thought my coconut oil was softer than it actually was, so I needed to heat it up until it was totally soft but not liquified. After those are combined, add your pink clay. This is how you want your coconut oil/jojoba/clay mixture to look. I made sure mine was completely cooled before adding the sugar.

Mix your sugar into your pink liquids until combined. You can use caster sugar for a finer grain of sugar/less abrasive scrub. I’ve used both in this recipe! I personally prefer the larger grain of the regular sugar, but they are both really nice. Next, I added in about five drops of each essential oil (lavender and grapefruit), but the beauty of course is that you can use any oil or combination you’d like!

I used an embossing label maker for a simple finish, but you could tie a little tag around the jar for a cute gift. This was a pretty inexpensive project with a lot of things you might already have, and I loved how it turned out! I’ve been using it a few times a week now and my skin feels so smooth and hydrated (and my shower always smells so good).

Happy exfoliating! xo. – Keely
