Guys, I am so excited for September! I will be traveling to Nashville twice during the month (some for work, and some for fun) as well as speaking at Chopped Con. I get super nervous before any speaking event, so I’ve already started to have dreams where I forget my slides or am running late and can’t find the event. Neither of these are likely to happen, but I always wake up from these dreams feeling anxious. I honestly love getting to speak from time to time, as my favorite part is getting to meet fellow bloggers or readers in person—so fun! But the actual speaking part always has me feeling nervous up until I actually do it, which is always a thrill. So I guess that’s why I keep doing it every now and again as opportunities arise. Sometimes it’s kind of good to do things that scare us. It keeps me from living too much in my comfort zone all the time. 🙂
Also, isn’t this avocado crop top the cutest! I was so stoked when I saw it on Nutrition Stripped. I love that site!

Besides re-watching The Office for the 47th time, I don’t have a lot of summer goals that are unfulfilled. We traveled less this summer, and I felt like I really got to enjoy all Nashville had to offer. Two weeks ago, when I saw the Halloween decor filling up the craft stores, I was pretty uninspired. But I have to admit—I’m warming up to it, and with September coming here I am getting excited to FULLY experience my first autumn season in Tennessee. Last year we were moving, so it didn’t really count.
If anyone has any Nashville or Tennessee fall traditions, please let me know!!

Gentry’s Farm is a great spot to hit up! It’s right past downtown Franklin. Corn maze, pumpkins to buy, a hay ride, etc. It’s a great spot to grab pictures too. Oktoberfest (first or second weekend in October) in Germantown is a two-thumbs up kind of event. Tons of vendors, cheap (but well made) beer, and so many bratwursts and funnel cakes that you’ll lose count. Of course, it’s later in the year but don’t forget Porter Flea: Holiday Edition (at the end of November/beginning of December). Anyway, those are the big three things on my calendar for the last four months of the year. Hope Nashville is still treating you right, Elsie!

Nashville is trying to get their Oktoberfest to grow (this weekend) haven’t been but sounds fun. OF COURSE, there is LOTS AND LOTS of football in the south to celebrate. If you can, try and go to a University of Tennessee game in Knoxville. Even if you aren’t a crazy football fan, the tailgating and simple spectacle is something to see.
I’ve had buns from the food truck you mentioned and they were awesome. Hope you are enjoying Nashville!

You have to go to Jackson’s Orchard in Bowling Green! Also Franklin’s Pumpkinfest can’t be missed!! Franklin in general during the Fall is magical, but Pumpkinfest is the ultimate tradition. Other recs – Boo at the Zoo, Checkwood Harvest, Rocky Horror at The Belcourt. Oh man, I miss Nashville now!
Re: Nashville and/or Tennessee autumn traditions.
If you feel like going for a scenic drive, take I-24 to Monteagle Mountain (about an hour and a half from Nashville). My family and I try to go see the leaves change there in late October every year. There’s a scenic overlook on the University of the South’s campus called Green’s Overlook. It’s the BEST place to see fall color. It opens up to a sprawling valley below the mountain and it’s just gorgeous. Also, Sewanee is a fun place to grab a cup of tea and check out their cozy little stip of stores. My favorite Tennessee fall tradition 🙂

I second the Gentry Farm Pumpkin Patch (an annual tradition) and Oktoberfest in Germantown! I also love football season and tailgating during the fall, even thought I’m not much of a sports fan. Driving over to East Tennessee into the Smoky Mtns for fall foliage is a must! Every fall we drive to Watertown to an old drive in movie theater Stardust. And the Nashville Farmers Market during fall is can’t miss – Cinderella pumpkins and beautiful fall decorations <3
Someone above mentioned going up to Sewanee/Monteagle Mountain and just another 45 minutes down the road is my hometown of Chattanooga. We’ve got some awesome fall foliage & lots of festivals around town. We also make it a point to visit a pumpkin patch every year. Oh, and if you’re interested in Chattanooga, we have the best festival called Main x 24 the first weekend of December where tons of places have open houses, a Christmas parade, special food, concerts & other events. They even close down part of Main Street for a while. To not really answer your question… Lol.

My Tennessee Fall Traditions:
1. When you just can’t take the end of summer heat anymore, head to Gatlinburg and rent a cabin so far up in the clouds, you need a sweater to stay warm.
2. Get a bowl of Roasted Pumpkin Soup from Flyte.
3. See the changing leaves at Centennial Park.
4. Attend the Nashville Whiskey Festival! The admission price is steep, but it’s a blast, and you’re sure to find a new favorite (or two. or three!)

I totally agree — it’s perfectly fine to be scared of certain things, but they shouldn’t stop you from living the life you want to live! I try to remember that every time I notice that I’m avoiding something out of fear. Wishing you lots of success, Emma, with your preparations!
The Nashville Cultural Festival is October 1st and is one of my favorite Nashville events. There are normally 40+ international food vendors, super cute shops, and really cool performances!
Elsie, head over toward the mountains in the 2nd week of October. The fall colors over there are like nothing you could ever imagine!
