Number one all time favorite airport food: Auntie Anne's pretzels. So if you ever run into me in at an airport and you see me scarfing down an almond crusted pretzel, don't judge. Just come say hi. We're all human. Sometimes you just gotta eat a pretzel while your traveling. I don't care how long the line is or if it's "only" 10am. I'm at an airport. I wantz a pretzel.I learned to make pretzels at home last year and I was in the mood again earlier this week. Because I just don't travel enough to get my pretzel fix. Instead of the usual I decided to try a mini version, and adding in some whole wheat flour. I followed the same basic recipe and method but instead of 3 cups all-purpose flour I used 2 1/2 cup all-purpose and 1/2 cup whole wheat. I also added sesame seeds to the tops. π The addition of whole wheat does make the dough a little less elastic, so it's a little more fussy to roll out. It's a fun variation. And I really love the bite-size. Actually, I love bite-size anything. xo. Emma

These look incredible!
I’m so not a cook, but have been on a baking-kick the past few weekends. Maybe I’ll give these a go on Sunday. Thanks for sharing (and whetting my appeteite!).
Hey, sry but they are called Bretzels. They are traditionally from Austria and Lower Germany. i am from Austria and i can assure you, you write them Bretzel π
but its a nice post π love them
Ohhh these look delicious! The first time I ever saw a ‘real’ pretzel was when I went to America two years ago, but now I’m in love!

I have a similar addiction to Auntie Anne’s, and I too don’t get my “fix” nearly often enough. I will definitely be trying this recipe! Always enjoy your recipe posts Emma, love how your sense of humor comes out!
This looks adorable. Totes.
Also, I wish my airport had an Auntie Anne’s pretzel shop… There used to be one in our mall back in Northern Virginia, but alas… I have moved far away from there. I still remember getting the hot hot hot cinnamon sugar pretzel and eating it from the wax paper bag as we walked the mall looking for Natural Wonders (does anyone but me remember this place???).
Happy fall/pretzel time!

I just had the best pretzel on the east coast and was thinking I needed a recipe to make my own and you have provided me with one! So perfect. These look absolutely delicious and I also really love the background of the photos. You are a wonderful food photographer!

Emma, you are a girl after my own heart! I love me some pretzels. Must be my German heritage. And these look delish! I think the addition of the sesame seeds sounds awesome! Thanks for the great idea and recipe!
my little nephew is obsessed with pretzels! this will definitely come in handy! π
Oh I love pretzels! I’ve never tried making them, but it looks a lot easier than I thought! I know I’ll have to add a little sea salt though – it may not be the best choice, but I’ve gotsta have some salt with my pretzels!

Love this healthy version of pretzels. Plus baking them at home is so much fun and, also, they’re sooo good!
Those look delish!

PS I love the way Emma writes It’s like a personal commentary. So refreshing and fun to read!
These look sweet, I wish I had the patience to make delicious snacks like this rather than rip open a pack of crisps! Can you come over and bake me some food please? Like, on a monthly basis?

Whole wheat flour contains comparatively less gluten (responsible for elasticity in dough) than all purpose flour, so it requires a slightly longer kneading/mixing time. Hope this helps!
Wow, there are pretzels at the airport? I’m from Germany and I’ve never seen pretzels at any airport in Europe π Instead we have Hot Dogs a lot.
Anything in bite-size is quite dangerous because I ate waaay too much when I can eat it in one rush. -sigh-
Wow!! Yum!!

Hahaha such a good article! Loved the idea! It is true that this shape is very cool for pretzels! I never tried baking pretzels because I always thought I’d be puzzled trying to do the shape of it. But well.. since I now have the recipe and an idea of form.. Maybe I’ll post some nice pic of pretzels next week.. hahaha
Thank you!
XO
As a new yorker I no longer have to rely on that random car guy on the corner to get my pretzel fix. Hooray! What a simple recipe!
Yum! I can’t wait to try these

I feel the same way–if I’m at an airport, I need a Auntie Anne’s pretzel! Gotta try this recipe out π
Oh, my gosh. I wasn’t hungry until I landed here. And now you’ve sent me on the hunt for a gluten free version…
Yum!
I also love the towel shown. Very fun, but simple print.
These look tasty. I love the top comment insisting they are called Bretzels. I studied German for many years and the P and B are often interchanged in translation. They can sound very similar. (Another example of this is the ss of German/Austrian evolved into the T in English, ex. weiss –> white, etc.) π
Looks so good!

These look so tasty and great for parties! I really need to make some of those.
Firstly, I’d be so excited to bump into you in an airport, and given that I’m in Australia, there’s not a lot of chance of that. Secondly, I’ve never had soft pretzels and therefore might just have to give these a go.
What are you dipping them into on that plate?
Auntie Anne’s. Yuuum. Now I’m hungry.

No judgment here. Pretzels are awesome, and I love making them at home. My sister and I used to do that all the time when we lived at home with our parents, and now she makes them for her kids. – Alison { aliology.com }
How did you know I’ve been craving soft pretzels lately? I’ll definitely have to make a batch of these!
Absolutely love pretzels, they’re so yummy and easy to make.

Fun size pretzels! Love it π I have the same type of feeling when I’m at an airport but instead it consists of wanting to try everything! That wouldn’t be a good idea so I opt for trying something different every time…no matter what time it is!
